Pat Davis Endorses Deb Haaland

At a news conference, Albuquerque City Councilor and current candidate in New Mexico’s First Congressional District Pat Davis endorsed Deb Haaland for Congress in New Mexico's First Congressional district. This crucial endorsement boosts Haaland’s momentum just seven days out from election as a progressive coalition is formed.

Pat Davis released the following statement:

“Doing even more will take the right partner in Congress who will be bold and progressive, too. That’s why I ran for Congress. But this year progressives have a lot of good choices and it is clear to me that by remaining divided none of us will win.”

“Out-of-state SuperPACs have already spent a half-million dollars to attack and divide progressives and help a conservative Democrat like Damon Martinez win on Election Day. I respect Damon Martinez’s service, but I’ve known him for years and his failure to listen to our residents and hold police accountable, and selectively targeting and prosecuting poor addicted black and brown residents of my own city council district should give us all pause.”

“We’ve all pledged to set our family disagreements aside after Election Day, but for progressives that day may be too late. That’s why I’m setting my personal ambitions aside now and asking undecided progressives to unite around the progressive candidate who has the best chance of winning and who I know I can work with at the city council and as an organizer to keep pushing back against Trump. That’s Deb Haaland. Deb and I know that, together, we have the grassroots support to overcome the millions of Republican dollars being spent on the leading opponent. And I know that in the city council and in Congress, we’ll make a good team, too.”

Statement from Deb Haaland:

“Pat Davis is an outspoken progressive, someone who has made a difference in the lives of so many hard working New Mexicans. From standing up to the NRA, to decriminalizing marijuana, and fighting for our DREAMers and working families  -- Albuquerque is lucky to have Pat as a City Councilor. I know personally how hard Pat has worked in this race - and I want to thank him, his campaign staff, and his volunteers for contributing to this race and to our community.”

“Pat’s support means more to me than he will ever know. Over a year ago - we both got in this race to make sure we fight for medicare for all, take on the NRA, take big money out of politics, support working families, and to ensure there is a new voice in Congress that represents all of us and fights for all of us. My story is New Mexico’s story, as a single mom I have lived progressive values, I have been in the trenches fighting for workers rights, women's rights, and equality for all. In over 240 years there has never been a Native American woman in Congress.  I am running to be your champion in Congress, I would be honored to have your support.”
