Statement from Valerie Jarrett:
Since our country was founded over 240 years ago, we have elected 10,200 members of Congress, yet there has never been a Native American woman. The time is now.
Deb's story is a uniquely American story: She’s a single mom. She's relied on food stamps. She volunteered at her daughter's preschool to afford tuition for early childhood education. She worked her way through undergraduate and law school in New Mexico. She started her own small business. And she was the first woman to chair her pueblo's economic development corporation.
I know Deb did amazing work as the NM Native American Vote Director for President Obama's re-election campaign, and of course, went on to do great work as the Democratic Party of NM Chair, in which she led the cause to flip the state house and elect Democrats up and down the ballot in 2016.
Deb Haaland has lived progressive values, and she’s been in the trenches fighting for them for decades. Congress has never heard a voice like Deb's and it's time to change that. Please join me today in supporting Deb for Congress.
