My name is Ro Khanna, and I have the pleasure of representing California's 17th Congressional District -- Silicon Valley. I'm a staunch Progressive Democrat and a Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and liaison to the Native American community.
I am proud to endorse Deb Haaland for New Mexico's 1st Congressional District for several reasons, one of the most important being that it is long overdue for a Native American woman to serve in Congress. As a nation striving for a more perfect union, we can no longer allow the absence of voices native to this land, especially those that would expand the voice of women in Congress. We need to fight for restorative justice and gender equity. This is Deb Haaland's life work.
I support Deb because she has a winning vision for the economy of Albuquerque and New Mexico. Deb believes that Albuquerque can become the tech capital of the Southwest, and with the right leadership, investments in innovation, and cultivation of a ready workforce -- I believe she's right. For each job created in the high-tech industry, another four jobs are created; we must position our nation as the high-tech leader in the world, and it starts with ensuring we have the right leadership in place in every district. Deb is that leader, and I want the opportunity to work with her to grow our economy in this way.
Deb and I also share a commitment to Veterans, and I know that New Mexico boasts a storied and committed Veteran community. Deb supported my legislation to expand access to tech training programs under the G.I. Bill because she knows we have a responsibility to ensure those who served are able to work and thrive when they come home. But, Deb is more than just a supporter -- she knows firsthand the challenges that Veterans face. Her Dad gave 30 years to the U.S. Marines, served in Vietnam and won the Silver Star, and is buried at Arlington. Deb was also handpicked to serve as an Honorary Commander of Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, and made sure Veterans issues were the centerpiece of her advocacy role. I look forward to working with Deb in Congress on Veterans issues, because her experience and expertise are needed at the table.
New Mexico's 1st Congressional District is crucial, and I know there are several candidates in the running. Deb is the clear choice for our economy, for veterans, and for progressive values. She is also the clear choice for the integrity of our country and hope for a better future. I want Deb in Congress because she will make a difference, and I ask that you get behind her with a $25, $50 or $100 contribution today.
