The vast majority of women will use birth control in the course of their lifetimes, which is why a majority of Americans support no-copay birth control. They understand that women’s access to basic health care should not be up for debate. This has nothing to do with religion--religious organizations already had an accommodation under the ACA that allowed their employees to get coverage through other means.
Trump and Speaker Ryan don't care about the facts with their continued irresponsible and short sighted attacks on women. The fact is, thanks to family planning and birth control, we are at a historic low for teen pregnancy and a 30-year low for unintended pregnancy. And, being able to get birth control by age 21 has been found to be the most influential factor in enabling women to stay in college.
As this rule comes on the heels of the House Republicans passing a 20-week abortion ban, it's never more clear that their real agenda is not to reduce the need for abortion -- but to control the bodies and lives of women. I am pro-choice and proud, and not afraid to stand up for a woman's right to choose. It is a Democratic value that must never be compromised. I will fight in Congress for universal access to birth control and all reproductive health services women need to lead healthy lives.
