Statement on Las Vegas

We awoke this morning to another horrific act of senseless gun violence -- the 273rd mass shooting in 2017. I'm full of grief and outraged that anyone we love could be shot anywhere at anytime.

While we await more details, one thing is clear: we need Congress to stop wasting lives and take action on gun violence -- now. We need to keep guns out of the hands of people who should never have a gun. We need 100% background checks and to close loopholes. We need major funding for behavioral health programs that are accessible to everyone. We need to foster a society in which violence is never the answer.

This is deemed the deadliest mass shooting in the United States - until the next one - when even more casualties could occur. No one should live in fear of attending a concert, dancing at a nightclub, or going to school. We must stop the killing now, and Congress must stop putting NRA politics and campaign contributions over the safety, wellbeing, and lives of American people.
